Scuba diving Pen Llŷn, Wales – Shallow Shores by Day (Watch Video)

First in a series of short video clips highlighting the many treasures of the Welsh coast…

Along the Welsh coast a diverse range of marine species can be found from the shallow shores out into the open water. Heading to the coastline of the Llŷn Peninsula in North West Wales, you don’t have to head far from the shore to find a range of species. The shallow sandy shores of the South Llŷn Peninsula are home to many species found hidden amongst the sand, where during the day many of these species are well camouflaged and buried. Early in the summer, large aggregations of the Spider crab come into the shallows to breed and within the ankle-high warmer water you’ll find tiny well-camouflaged flatfish species. As darkness falls the dynamics of the sandy habitat changes and many of the cryptic species emerge. Tune into the next clip to discover this sandy habitat by night.
