Introducing The Seahorse Trust blog series on Scubaverse
We are really thrilled to be asked by Scubaverse to write a regular blog about seahorses and The Seahorse Trust in general.
So for introduction….
What do we do, and why?
The Seahorse Trust was set up in 1999 as an umbrella organisation to preserve and conserve the natural world, (especially the marine environment) using seahorses as our flagship species.
We work in partnership with many organisations and people from all over the world. It is this unique partnership that allows us to achieve so much in the conservation of seahorses and their environment for the future.
Seahorses are a unique fish species that occupy the coastal areas of most of the world. It is these very areas that are most under threat – being vulnerable to human interference and natural disasters.
By working together we can make a difference to the future of the seahorse and these fragile eco-systems.
Although we are a small charity, we are very effective. We make a difference in so many ways – in education, conservation and by lobbying for protected areas. We also lobby to have marine and terrestrial species protected.
Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing information about seahorses with you, so you have a better understanding of these little fish!
In the meantime, if you want to learn more, please go to www.theseahorsetrust.org
If you’re lucky enough to see (or to have seen) a seahorse in the wild anywhere in the world, please add it to the World Seahorse Survey at :-

Until next time – happy and safe diving.
