Don’t Miss The Chance To Chat With The Director Of Antarctica Documentary ‘The Last Ocean’ At Screening In Bristol Next Week
The Watershed Cinema in Harbourside, Bristol is holding a special screening of ‘The Last Ocean’ on Thursday the 26th September. ‘The Last Ocean’ is a documentary that lifts the lid on commercial fishing in the most pristine ocean ecosystem on Earth – the Ross Sea in Antarctica.
The documentary aims to raise awareness of the Ross Sea and hopes to establish it as a marine protected area.
After the screening the audience will have the opportunity to have a conversation with Professor Alex Rogers, a Marine Scientist from Oxford University, Polar Wildlife Cameraman Doug Allan and (by live video link) Peter Young, the Producer/Director of the film.
The Ross Sea is the most pristine marine ecosystem on earth. Unlike most of the world’s oceans it has remained free from widespread pollution, invasive species, mining and overfishing. It is the most productive stretch of water in the Southern Ocean providing a home to an incredible array of animals, many found nowhere else on the planet.
What’s more, the Ross Sea still has all its top predators – including large fish, whales, seals and penguins. The Ross Sea is one of very few intact large marine ecosystems left, and as such, it is a living laboratory providing scientists with the last chance to understand how a healthy marine ecosystem functions.
