Lumbalumba Resort Supports No Trash Triangle Initiative to Help Protect North Sulawesi’s Oceans
Lumbalumba Resort has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the marine environment by partnering with the No Trash Triangle Initiative (NTTI), joining a growing number of resorts working together to tackle plastic pollution in North Sulawesi.
While the region is renowned for its spectacular reefs, diverse marine life and crystal-clear waters, plastic pollution remains one of the greatest challenges facing the world’s oceans. Ocean currents can carry waste over long distances, with plastic debris regularly washing up on even the most beautiful beaches.
Working alongside local communities and tourism partners, the No Trash Triangle Initiative focuses on preventing plastic from reaching the ocean in the first place. Founded by divers inspired to protect the underwater world they love, NTTI promotes practical solutions, community involvement and long-term environmental stewardship.
As part of its work in Manado, the organisation regularly collects waste from beach clean-ups, ensuring it is carefully sorted and recycled wherever possible. It also installs waste barriers at river mouths, intercepting plastic before it can reach the sea and helping to safeguard North Sulawesi’s coral reefs, marine life and coastal ecosystems.
