UWP News from DEMA: Ikelite
We met with John Brigham, son of Ikelite’s founder, to chat about what is new at Ikelite. All of Ikelite’s products are made in the USA and their motto is: “If we cannot make it ourselves, we do not do it”.
Ikelite have redesigned their port system and have been working on making their systems more modular. This ethos is to accommodate those who may want to use their systems for surf imaging, pool work and the like, as well as freediving and scuba-diving. So Ikelite are making it easier for their customers to start out minimalistic and grow their underwater photography systems as they need to. So you can now add a thicker back to your housing, when you want to go deeper, without having to buy a new system. You can also add TTL. Basically, the idea is that as your underwater photography needs grow, so can your Ikelite housing.
Ikelite offer housings from point and shoot cameras all the way to DSLR systems. Their polycarbonate/AVS blend means that the main body is no longer see-through as in the old days, but the backs still are so that you can still see what is going on inside. A new port and tray system means that the systems are lighter.
It was great to see the huge, bright stand being well attended throughout the 4 days at DEMA. Housings for all the new compact, mirrorless and DSLR models were on display, as well as plenty of lighting options and accessories.
