Diving in the lakes of the Austrian Alps – watch video

These two mountain lakes (Lake Fernstein & Lake Samaranger) are located in midst of the Austrian alps at an altitude of approximately 1000 meters above sea level, and are considered an absolute highlight when it comes to diving in mountain lakes in Europe. They are a main attraction of the region and draw numerous divers from all over Europe.

Lake Samaranger is so incredibly clear (because of it’s subterranean water supply), it feels like you are hovering in space! The special algae (which looks a bit like candy floss) that covers most of the lake’s bottom as well as the fallen trees that are scattered around gives the whole diving experience here a very special feel.

Whether or not you are a fresh water diver, this place is most definitely worth a visit and is like a trip into a fairytale world.
