Commemorating the Forgotten U-boat War around the Welsh Coast, 1914-18

The Nautical Archaeology Society, the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales and Bangor University are currently collaborating on a project to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War, and in particular the shipping losses that occurred around the Welsh coast.

As part of this project the Nautical Archaeology Society (NAS) will be running a FREE, open to all, field school, over the weekend of 23rd – 24th June on Traeth Bychan Beach, Anglesey. The field school will include evening talks, demonstrations, displays, and a host of maritime themed events. Also, over the weekend (weather permitting), diving will take place on the wreck of the steam-trawler SS Cartagena, and if any Welsh dive clubs are interested in bringing along their dive boat and diving the site, please contact the NAS at nas@nauticalarchaeologysociety.org

For further information about the field school, see: http://www.nauticalarchaeologysociety.org/WalesUBoatWar

You can follow the Project on Facebook @llongauUboat and Twitter @LlongauUBoat.

With thanks to National Lottery players for proving the funding support through the Heritage Lottery Fund.
