Shark Town
Shark Town is a real-life JAWS flipover.
In this fast-paced film, Richard Peirce, author, broadcaster and past Shark Trust Chair, takes shark enthusiasts on a voyage of discovery to the South African coastal town of Gansbaai, which once styled itself ‘The Great White Shark Capital of the world’.
Gansbaai faced disaster when the Great White population disappeared. Then an unexpected toothy saviour swam in to save the day.

Gansbaai in Walker Bay is home to many shark and whale species, boasting a hugely rich marine environment. These unique factors have inspired world-class conservation measures and leading marine science. Richard has been part of the Walker Bay scene for nearly 30 years, and in this premiere opens the window to a real JAWS story.
Attendees will also get the chance to see the Shark Trust short documentary, Living with Sharks in The Bahamas. The Shark Trust travelled to The Bahamas to talk to people about their experiences in living alongside a shark sanctuary. Discover what they had to say.
Live Q&A Session
At the end of the screening the audience will be invited to ask questions to both Richard Peirce and Paul Cox.
Richard Peirce is a successful author, filmmaker, presenter and freelance writer. He has been fortunate enough to encounter nature’s most iconic animals all over the world.
Richard is a committed wildlife conservationist who now spends all of his time on various projects trying to contribute to the conservation of specific species. He was one of the earliest members of the Shark Trust, which was founded in 1997. He later joined the Board and was Chairman for 12 years.
Paul Cox is a leading voice in ocean stewardship and one of today’s most compelling interpreters of shark science. As CEO of the Shark Trust since 2015 his small team now shapes international treaties and mobilises mass digital campaigns for the planet’s 1,200-plus shark and ray species.
