NUPG March Meeting Report

The March meeting of the Northern Underwater Photography Group saw award winning underwater photographer, Trevor Rees, come to talk about his images. Trevor has been diving for 40 years. He used his first camera, a Nikonos 3 for 20 years before switching to digital. He now uses a full frame Nikon in Nauticam housing.

Trevor talked us though a small section of his amazing portfolio from diving in the UK. We looked at images from freshwater sites including quarries, rivers and even his own garden pond! The group marvelled at his macro images, and his close focus wide angle shots that are his real passion at the moment and have brough his huge success in competitions such as the BIUPC, BWPA and UPY.

Trevor also talked us though some of the techniques he uses in digitally manipulating his images, using software and in camera. Alas, at this point the NUPG projector decided to give up and so the large crowd that had come to hear Trevor talk moved forward to enjoy more images on a smaller laptop screen, and to hear Trevor discuss the equipment he uses and to get ideas on homemade accessories!

Alas, the projector failure also meant that the monthly competition was postponed until the next time the group will meet up.

The talk from Trevor was one of the most inspiring I have ever attended. His images were mind-blowingly good and it is always wonderful to have a photographer who is so happy to share their knowledge so freely. It has inspired our group to go out, and focus on the great subjects that can be found on our doorstep.
