Washington State’s Octopus Hunting Ban Goes Into Effect

After widespread public outcry following the legal capture and killing of a giant Pacific octopus by a SCUBA diver off Aki Point in West Seattle last year, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife have taken steps to make octopus hunting illegal in at least 7 different dive sites within Puget Sound.

Recreational harvest of octopus will now be banned at Deception Pass (north of Oak Harbor);
Seacrest Park Coves 1, 2 and 3 (West Seattle); Alki Beach Junk Yard (West Seattle); Three Tree Point (Burien); Redondo Beach (Des Moines); Les Davis (Tacoma); and Days Island (Tacoma).

You can read about the original story from last year that sparked all this off here.
