Wales Best of the West – Episode 1 – Porth Ysgaden

Wales Best of the West (Cymru Gorau’r Gorllewin) is a bilingual online series that takes viewers on a journey from North to South Wales to discover four favourite shore dives.

In this episode, we explore Porth Ysgaden.

Porth Ysgaden is a shallow bay situated on the North coast of Pen Llŷn. The bay barely gets deeper than 9m making it perfect for training and personally a location I dive most often and learnt to dive at. The bay may be shallow and small but it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Exploring the range of seaweed species, kelp parks, gullies and patches of clean sand you can find a diverse range of marine life from macro nudibranchs (sea slugs) up to catsharks patrolling the reefs. Heading below the waves at night also reveals the many inhabitants that remain hidden during the day.
