UK Based Dive Centre Offering Free Scuba Taster Sessions For Disabled People
UK based dive centre 3D Diving Services C.I.C. are offering free scuba “taster sessions” which will be specifically aimed at people who have a disability and have previously thought that this may prevent them from scuba diving on Friday 13th September at Culverhay pool, Rush Hill, Bath.
3D Diving Services C.I.C. is a social enterprise scheme set up to offer scuba diving courses for people who are physically challenged or mentally impaired.
DDI (Disabled Divers International) Instructor, Alex Slade, with over 20 years experience teaching diving leads the team at Culverhay Pool in Bath along with qualified and experienced PADI Instructors and Divemasters from The Dive Zone in Melksham.
DDI courses are running in conjunction with PADI, using PADI course materials and adhering to PADI standards. The DDI certification uses adaptive diving techniques in order to meet PADI standards and the DDI qualification will reflect the level of assistance the diver requires in the water.
For amputees, the loss of a limb can mean loss of movement on land and cumbersome equipment but underwater you regain freedom of movement, weightlessness and the opportunity to move in 3 dimensions. For someone suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, for example, the 100% concentration required when learning to dive can leave no room for thought and so give some respite from the condition.
It is important to book in advance as numbers are limited and 3D Diving will need to discuss people’s handicap with them and send a medical statement form to be signed before the event.
