Toucan Diving at Plaza Beach and Dive Resort Bonaire Introduces PADI Mermaid Training

Toucan Diving, the on-site PADI Five-Star facility at Plaza Beach and Dive Resort on Bonaire has introduced a mermaid experience and training program for guests. The PADI programs allow participants to both try the feeling and sensation of wearing a monofin/mermaid tail and being underwater with that equipment.

According to Dive Operations Manager Hagen Wegerer, “there are no prerequisites. This experience program includes a briefing and water session. The class lasts one hour and is available for anyone ages 6 and above.” He adds that the classes and held in the pool next to the watersports center.

Participants that want to go further can participate in the PADI Basic Mermaid Course. This introductory course is for those who are brand new to using a monofin and wish to continue to unique “mermaid experience.” Wegerer explains the class consists of a knowledge development session and confined water session. “You must be able to swim at least 25m and float comfortably at the surface for at least 3 minutes. Class is one hour and available for ages 6 to adult.”

This program is one of many new developments at Toucan Diving and Plaza Beach and Dive Resort. The facility has recently added a new dive vessel, and unveiled a new training pool. Toucan Diving was also recognized by PADI for 25 years of exceptional service.
