The Seahorse Trust Blog: Divers – we love you!

Did you know that divers are invaluable to the work of The Seahorse Trust in its quest for information about seahorses in the wild?

We value your amazing input, and without you, both native British species wouldn’t have been protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981).

If you see a seahorse in the wild, please let us know.

We need to know everything we can about it, such as location (country, resort etc), size, distinguishing marks, species, the habitat it was found in, gender, weather conditions, and depth. In fact everything you can think of – but don’t worry if you don’t have many of these details, as we can hopefully work some of them out from your photo’s.

We just ask that if you see a seahorse – please look but don’t touch.

Please don’t use flash on your camera as this can cause stress and may result in the subsequent death of the seahorse.

If the seahorse moves away or starts to change to a darker colour, this shows it’s getting stressed. Please don’t chase them for that ‘perfect shot’!

Watch out for more tips in the next blog…

In the meantime, if you want to learn more, please go to-www.theseahorsetrust.org

If you’re lucky enough to see (or to have seen) a seahorse in the wild anywhere in the world, please add it to the World Seahorse Survey at :-

Until next time, safe and happy diving!
