SSI Reimagines One of Diving’s Most Popular Specialty Programs: Introducing the New Enriched Air Nitrox Course
Scuba Schools International (SSI) has announced the release of its newly updated Enriched Air Nitrox specialty program, delivering a more streamlined, modern learning experience for both divers and instructors.
As one of the most popular specialty certifications in diving, Enriched Air Nitrox has long been a cornerstone of continuing education. The revised program features a clearer lesson-based structure, enhanced academic content, and improved connections between theory and real-world Nitrox diving applications—making it easier than ever for students to understand, retain, and apply key concepts.
The updated program continues to offer two certification levels—Enriched Air Nitrox 32 and Enriched Air Nitrox 40—with a seamless upgrade path between them. Students pursuing Nitrox 32 can now complete the entire academic portion digitally, including the final exam, providing greater flexibility and accessibility than ever before.
Key enhancements include:
- A clearer, lesson-based format with defined learning objectives
- Updated content covering Nitrox fundamentals, gas management, and safe diving practices
- Improved integration between student and instructor materials
- Fully digital learning and examination options for Nitrox 32 (Note: Certification requires Instructor approval)
- Stronger connections between theory and practical diving applications
For SSI Training Centers, the updated program creates additional opportunities to incorporate Nitrox training into continuing education pathways, Open Water Diver packages, and advanced training programs. As a knowledge-based specialty, the course can be completed without in-water training, although SSI continues to recommend practical application dives whenever possible.
“Enriched Air Nitrox remains one of the most valuable and versatile certifications a diver can earn,” states Mike Schechter, SSI Director of Training, North America. “This update modernizes the learning experience while ensuring students develop a stronger understanding of the benefits, limitations, and safe use of Nitrox in real-world diving.”
The newly revised Enriched Air Nitrox program is now available worldwide, in multiple languages, through the complete SSI Total Teaching System.
