Search called off for diver’s body

Police in Devon in the UK have confirmed that the search for the body of a diver reportedly spotted on the seabed off Brixham has been called off.

The alarm was raised on Wednesday afternoon after experienced divers reported the sighting near Breakwater Beach.

A large air and sea search was launched on Wednesday and resumed using police divers on Thursday, before being called off, and a police spokesman has confirmed that the search did not resume yesterday morning.

Pip Hall, Coastguard rescue sector commander for East Devon, who was co-ordinating the search, said: “The search went on for five hours on Wednesday and a further six on Thursday, but the police diving teams have found nothing.”

A police spokesman added that as of yet nothing significant had been found and that inquiries are still ongoing.

Nobody has so far been reported missing.
