Rachel Brooks: Can art save the ocean? (Watch Video)

The January 2023 NUPG meeting kicked off the new year with a talk that covered a host of different topics from underwater photography, marine life, art and conservation. Rachel Brooks joined the group from her home in Scotland and presented to the hybrid NUPG meeting format. This format allows for people to select whether to come to the meeting in person, and join the group for a meal beforehand, or to dial in remotely. It also means speakers can present live from Manchester, or as in this case, speak remotely too.

Rachel gave a wonderful talk on all about her incredible art work and the marine life encounters that have inspired her. This led on to discussions on how art can help in marine conservation – artivism.

You can see more of Rachel’s work on her website, Instragram and Facebook pages.

The monthly competition theme was Wide Angle. Congratulations to the joint winners: Alex Tasker and Maggie Russell.
