Mermaid Minute #3: Crabs (Watch Video)

In this new series on Scubaverse.com we are sharing Linden Wolbert’s video series ‘Mermaid Minute’.

The “Mermaid Minute” is an ocean educational web series for children.  Each action-packed episode explores one subject, creature or habitat about our oceans for 60 seconds.

Professional Mermaid Linden Wolbert is a real mermaid whose passion is educating children about the wonders of our oceans, swimming safety and ocean conservation as well as exploration and inspiring our world’s youngest ocean ambassadors.

This is Episode #3 of the Mermaid Minute, the only ocean education web series hosted by a mermaid!

Crabs are funny looking creatures called CRUSTACEANS. They walk sideways, have ten legs and can live on land or in the water! Using two paddles on their backside, crabs can swim surprisingly well! Crabs have two large grasping claws called PINCERS, which help them eat food, ward off predators and pinch unwanted guests! Crabs have an EXOSKELETON, or outer shell, which gives them support around their soft bodies. The largest crab in the world is the JAPANESE SPIDER CRAB. They can grow a leg-span of over 12 FEET (4 meters) ! Some crabs have very brightly colored shells. Do you have a hermit crab as a pet? Hermit crabs can live in and out of the water.
