Jennifer Lawrence to Star as Freediver Audrey Mestre in Biopic

Jennifer Lawrence

Hollywood superstar Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in The Dive, playing record-breaking freediver Audrey Mestre.

Born to a French snorkeling and scuba diving family, Mestre studied marine biology and became a diving devotee who set a female world record in 2000 for descending 130 meters on a single breath of air. Unfortunately, Mestre died two years later in a diving accident – a death for which her husband Francisco “PipĂn” Ferreras, also a diver, was blamed for initially. Ferreras later wrote a book about their marriage called The Dive: A Story of Love and Obsession, which will form the basis of the film.

After developing the project for over a decade, James Cameron passed the film over to Francis Lawrence, the director of the second, third, and fourth Hunger Games movies.
