Divers in the Dominican Republic discover Hispaniola’s ‘biggest’ cave

A submerged cave one-kilometer long and 25 meters deep was discovered in Puerto Plata’s Choco nature reserve,  the Dominican Republic’s Environment Ministry announced Monday. It affirms  it’s the biggest find of its type on the island of Hispaniola shared with Haiti.

Environment minister Bautista Rojas said the discovery is a great opportunity for Puerto Plata and the country to continue ecotourism’s development with greater thrust

He said divers of the Dominican Republic Speleological Society (DRSS) made the discovery, who said they expect the cave will become a major attraction “for fans of specialized diving around the world.”
