BSAC Dive Leader qualification gets improved recognition from HSE

BSAC

Amendments to the HSE Diving at Work Regulations, which came into force on 18th March 2015, have removed an anomaly that previously did not fully recognise the content of BSAC Dive Leader. Previously the HSE relied solely on comparison with the CMAS equivalency.

The Regulations have been amended to additionally recognise recreational diving qualifications that comply with EN 14153-3/ISO 24801-3 Dive Leader standards for certain classes of commercial diving work. BSAC Dive Leader is certified to meet EN 14153-3/ISO 24801-3 and so meets this requirement.

The mainly affects divers taking part in scientific or archaeological diving projects either at University or in support of a formal project. Previously the requirement was for Advanced Diver (CMAS 3* equivalent).
