John Bantin: How I made a small fortune from underwater photography…

The February 2021 NUPG meeting saw John Bantin take to the virtual stage for a hugely entertaining talk about his career in underwater photography. John talked about his early work as an advertising photographer, his rebreather exploits, his travels around the world and, of course, the images he has taken while working as an underwater photojournalist.

The NUPG also holds a themed underwater photography competition for its members each month. This month the theme was “Oh You Pretty Thing”. Here are the results:

Winner: Justin Beevor’s shot of a pygmy seahorse from the Lembeh Strait
Runner-Up: Maggie Russell’s Nudi shot also from the Lembeh Strait
3rd Place: John Spencer’s image of a pair of bannerfish from the Red Sea

The next meeting will see Georgie Bull take the virtual stage on Monday 8th March.
