Oonasdivers Announce New Red Sea Shark Workshop
UK-based tour operator Oonasdivers have announced a date for their next ‘Shark Raving Mad’ workshop in the Red Sea.
Running from the 30th October – 2nd November 2015 (full trip dates 28th October – 4 November), the workshop will take place in the Southern Dive Village of Marsa Shagra with Marine Biologist Elke Bojanowski.
Dr. Bojanowski has been conducting shark research in Egypt since October 2004. Her research focuses on photo-identification studies of local shark populations, mainly oceanic whitetip sharks, but also grey reef and silky sharks. Additionally a general shark monitoring project has been carried out since 2010.
Marsa Shagra in southern Egypt is the ideal location to learn about shark behaviour and biology from an expert and dive the world famous Elphinstone reef to be in with a chance to see sharks up close and personal.
The Red Sea Sharks workshop is aimed at divers interested in learning about different aspects of sharks, their biology and conservation. Focus is on the more common Red Sea shark species and the research projects conducted under the umbrella of the Red Sea Sharks Trust. No previous knowledge of sharks is required.

Evening 1: Introduction to Red Sea Sharks, their biology, how to identify and dive with them
Evening 2: Shark behavior and interactions with humans
Evening 3: Shark conservation & research
Weather permitting, there will be daily dive trips to Elphinstone (2 dives a day over 3 days) to hopefully encounter some of these amazing predators underwater.
Those who wish to dive in Elphinstone must hold a minimum of 50 dives, and PADI AOWD or CMAS 2** qualification. Whilst we recommend following the full workshop program, participants can decide to attend only evening lectures and a lower number of Elphinstone dives if they wish.
