Face to Face with Jeff Goodman: Ben Jones, CCO & Co-Founder of Project Seagrass

In this exclusive video for Scubaverse.com, Jeff Goodman sits down with Ben Jones, Chief Conservation Officer and Co-Founder of Project Seagrass.

Ben is the Chief Conservation Officer at Project Seagrass, an organisation he co-founded in 2013 after seeing the need for stronger, science-based conservation action for seagrass meadows globally.

As an interdisciplinary scientist and one of the world’s leading experts on seagrass social-ecological systems, he examines how seagrass meadows shape, and are shaped by, people. He designs, leads and delivers research and conservation programmes that generate evidence for policy, management and practice across the globe. This work positions seagrass meadows as critical ecosystems for biodiversity, climate resilience, food security, livelihoods and the Sustainable Development Goals.

He’s been working with seagrass ecosystems for more than a decade and has led seagrass research and conservation programmes across multiple regions. His work spans the use of local knowledge to conserve and manage seagrass-associated recreational fisheries in the Caribbean, understanding how poverty and food insecurity shape seagrass-associated fisheries across the Indo-Pacific, and advancing the social-ecological science needed to restore seagrass meadows in Northern Europe. He co-leads the SeagrassSpotter citizen science programme at Project Seagrass.
