Divers Report Massive, Unknown Object off Catalina Coast During Night Dive
Scubaverse is receiving reports from divers of an extraordinary encounter during a night dive off Catalina Island yesterday evening. Mark Hensley and Sofia Alvarez from Blue Horizon Dive Center were taking a small group out for a routine night dive when they reportedly witnessed a massive, dark object hovering silently above the reef.
Mark described the encounter:
“It was surreal. The whole thing lasted no more than 30 seconds. Out of nowhere, intense white-blue lights lit up the water, brighter than daylight, and there was this deep, vibrating sound that seemed to come from everywhere at once. Then, just as suddenly, the sound stopped—and a few seconds after that, the lights went out. The object wasn’t there anymore. It simply disappeared. Everyone was frozen for a moment, trying to process what we’d just seen.”
Catalina Island, sitting in the Santa Catalina Channel, has a long history of unusual sightings in and under the water. Divers, sailors, and pilots have reported strange lights and fast‑moving objects that seem to glide effortlessly between air and sea.
Tim Gallaudet, retired Navy Rear Admiral and former NOAA Administrator, has highlighted the importance of studying these transmedium objects, while Rep. Tim Burchett has spoken about deep‑water zones where unidentified objects have been tracked moving at extraordinary speeds.
The shaken-up dive group focused on a safe ascent under night dive conditions, but what they saw off Catalina left a lasting impression. The object remains unidentified.
