Diver Finds Rightful Owner of Wedding Ring After Huge Online Search
Back in September, 21-year-old Daniel Roark found a wedding ring on the ocean floor when he went scuba diving in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Daniel took to the Internet to find the ring’s rightful owner, posting a photo of it on his Facebook page, where it was shared more than 127,000 times. The search for the ring owner even got national news coverage.
However, finding the person who the ring belonged to became a bit of an obsession, with Daniel spending four to five hours a day following leads, responding to messages, and following up on emails and calls.
After more than 50 people falsely tried to claim the ring as theirs, Daniel received a Facebook message from a woman who said the ring belonged to her cousin. To confirm the claim, she sent a picture from the couple’s wedding. And there it was — the exact same ring.
The couple, Jessica Garza-Castillo and Martin Castillo from the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, showed Daniel a receipt from the jeweller and verified the inscription on the inside of the band. It turns out that Martin lost the ring while the couple were scuba diving on their honeymoon in February 2013! Jessica told Daniel that she was upset with Martin when he lost the ring because she thought she would never see it again.
