The Galapagos: a once in a lifetime diving experience

Published

on

Master Liveaboards logoDiving the Galapagos is on every diver’s bucket list. The islands are famous for some of the most incredible underwater action in the world.

Find yourself surrounded by huge schools of barracudas, groupers, snappers, jacks or tunas. Dive with curious and playful sea lions, watch marine iguanas eat, be surprised by a big school of dolphins or mobula rays. Drift along with black and white tip sharks, bullhead sharks, Galapagos sharks and of course watch the famous big schools of hammerheads so characteristic of Galapagos waters.

Would you love to experience this but hate diving in cold water? Did you know that from January to June the waters in the Galapagos are milder than you realise, around 70°F (21°C) – 80°F (27°C)? These water temperatures are just perfect for diving with just a wet suit and still being able to get the most of what the Galapagos have to offer. But there’s another plus – these warmer waters bring along generally better visibility, calmer seas and a lot of mantas.

Mantas migrate at this time of the year to mate, so expect to see long mating trains with single females being followed by several males dancing above your head – something truly beautiful.

Big schools of mobula rays are also seen at this time of the year, as well as a larger number of sea turtles and marine iguanas.

This time of the year is also perfect to observe, on land, larger groups of iguanas, flamingos, white-cheeked pintails, albatross, masked and blue footed boobies that love to visit the different liveaboards around the area.

So if you are an avid diver who:

  • loves to dive in warm waters
  • loves to dive with good viz
  • loves to enjoy flat and calm seas during your liveaboard vacations
  • loves to dive with mantas
  • wants to enjoy a thrilling underwater experience

Then diving in the Galapagos from January to June is definitely for you.

Since the launch of the Galapagos Master last May 2015, she has been operating at full capacity, but due to last minute cancellations in February, there are now some spaces available. Don’t miss this opportunity – contact them today for a once in a lifetime experience.
