Cruise & Stay with Carpe Diem Maldives
Cruise and Stay with Carpe Diem Maldives New Combined Resort and Luxury Yacht Week.
Explore the beauty of the Maldivian atolls with a new 7-night combined resort and cruise offer to experience the best of worlds; luxury cruising and a private island resort.
Unrivalled relaxation, stunning white-sand beaches, a seemingly endless blue horizon and an amazing underwater world make The Maldives an obvious choice for travellers around the world seeking the holiday of a lifetime. When Carpe Diem Maldives opens its new and first resort in November, it also presents and new opportunity to combine an award-winning safari cruise experience with a vibrant and social resort stay.
From November 25th – December 2nd, for the first time, travellers can enjoy a seamless week-long combination of a luxury resort stay and an award-winning cruise across the atolls from Male to Raa, or vice versa. Open to just 20 travellers each way, the week begins either with a 4-night cruise onboard Carpe Vita, diving and snorkeling three times a day on different reefs as they make their way to Carpe Diem Beach Resort & Spa in Raa Atoll, or with a stay at the resort before embarking on the cruise for a 3-night return journey back to Male.
“In 10 years of operating our diving safari cruises, we’ve welcomed many guests who travel alone because their partner doesn’t dive. For the non-diving partner 7 days on a cruise is too long, and for our diving guests, the idea of 7 days in one place at a resort is too limiting. This new combination strikes a perfect balance for the diving and non-diving travellers who want to enjoy everything this beautiful destination offers together,” explains Agnes van Linden, Assistant Managing Director of Carpe Diem Maldives.
Voted one of the Top 10 Dive Liveaboards in the World, the luxury cruise vessel Carpe Vita offers 10 en suite cabins and caters to just 20 guests. The boat also has a fully licensed bar, communal lounge area with a TV, and a Jacuzzi on the top deck. Dining is buffet style and enjoyed on a communal long table with views out to the ocean. The days begin with a morning dive at 6am, mid morning at around 11am and then an afternoon dive around 3pm. For non-divers, some of the best snorkelling in the world can be enjoyed in the clear waters over a variety of dazzling coral walls that are home to schools of brightly coloured tropical fish. In deeper waters, divers can expect to encounter manta rays, turtles, sharks and even the possibility of the world’s largest fish, the whale shark.
“Carpe Diem Maldives is uniquely positioned to offer something truly different and engaging to a wide profile of travellers,” adds Carpe Diem Beach Resort & Spa General Manager, Socrates Alvaro. “The resort itself brings several new and inimitable features for the destination, from our inflatable aqua park in the lagoon, to our overwater transparent dance floor and Latino bar called Buena Vista, and the first Nikkei signature restaurant in the Maldives, Ocean Deep. To be able to combine a stay here with a one way journey – either to or from the resort – on a luxury cruise over three or four days with just 20 other guests, it doesn’t get much better than that for the variety and quality of experience in just one week.”
Carpe Diem Maldives has a decade of experience in attracting like-minded travellers with their adventure cruises, inviting guests to embrace opportunity with a seize-the-day approach to travel that is in harmony with nature. The newest addition to the portfolio, a 115-pool villa resort in Raa Atoll opens in November and with an emphasis on being social resort, appeals to the active traveller who engages in a vibrant lifestyle while respecting the natural environment. Quo Spa with it’s Hammam and range of specialised treatments inspires guests to change their status quo into a healthy routine with a dynamic approach to wellbeing. Daily yoga and fitness programs by Les Mills are among the methods guests at Carpe Diem Beach Resort & Spa can participate in as the take, or find, their health regime on holiday. Alternatively, if relaxation is high on the agenda, tranquil beaches, private pool villas and intimate dining are all possibilities to indulge in some quiet time.
Departing and returning from Male international airport, guests can choose to take Carpe Vita to the Carpe Diem Beach Resort in Raa Atoll, or embark on the cruise on it’s way back from the resort back to Male. Starting from USD 1,746 per person for the week from November 25th – December 2nd the week includes;
- 3 or 4 nights on board Carpe Vita
- 3 or 4 nights at Carpe Diem Beach Resort & Spa full board.

Paul Watson Released as Denmark Blocks Japan’s Extradition Bid
Renowned anti-whaling activist Paul Watson has been released from custody in Greenland after spending five months in detention. Denmark’s Justice Ministry rejected Japan’s request for his extradition, citing insufficient guarantees that his time already served in custody would be credited against any potential sentence.
The 74-year-old Canadian-American was arrested on July 21 in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, when his ship docked to refuel. His arrest was based on a 2012 Japanese warrant related to a 2010 encounter in Antarctic waters. Japan alleged Watson obstructed operations and caused damage to a whaling research ship during efforts to disrupt illegal whaling. Watson has consistently denied these claims, maintaining his commitment to marine conservation.
Denmark, which oversees extradition matters for Greenland, concluded that while the legal conditions for extradition were met, the lack of assurances from Japan regarding time-served credit made extradition untenable.
In a video shared by his foundation, Watson expressed gratitude and relief, saying, “After five months, it’s good to be out… and good to know they’re not sending me to Japan.” He added that the most difficult part of his time in custody was being separated from his two young sons.
Watson is a pioneering figure in marine conservation, known for founding the Captain Paul Watson Foundation in 2022 after decades of activism with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. His bold efforts to defend marine life have earned him widespread support, including from celebrities and conservationists. His work has also been featured in the acclaimed reality TV series Whale Wars.
Watson’s lawyer, Jonas Christoffersen, praised the decision, stating, “We are happy and relieved that Paul Watson is now free.” He added that Watson is eager to reunite with his family and continue his vital work.
The arrest occurred while Watson’s vessel, the M/Y John Paul DeJoria, was en route to the North Pacific with a team of 26 volunteers to intercept a Japanese whaling ship. His foundation described the arrest as politically motivated and emphasized that Watson’s actions were focused on ending illegal whaling practices.
Japan resumed commercial whaling in 2019 after leaving the International Whaling Commission, asserting that whale meat is a cultural tradition. Conservationists, however, continue to challenge these practices, highlighting their impact on marine ecosystems.
Despite the challenges, Watson remains steadfast in his mission to protect marine life and bring attention to whaling practices. His dedication to ocean conservation has made him a globally respected advocate for the environment.
