Positioned between a traditional wetsuit and a neoprene drysuit, the semi-dry dive suit’s design concept is simple: Combine the snug fit of a wetsuit with some of the sealing elements of a drysuit. By doing so you eliminate the bulk and hydrodrag that’s inherent in most drysuits, while minimising heat-stealing water flow that’s inevitable in most wetsuits.
Scubapro’s Nova Scotia semi-dry suit enters 2015 with a number of upgrades. Last year’s Nova Scotia 6.5mm has been replaced with a new model: a 7.5mm version, made with 100 percent water-repellent Everflex neoprene. New styling has freshened the overall look of the suit, and improved thermoplastic kneepads and Powertex anti-abrasion patterns on the shoulders provide even more protection. Also, the old Ti-Zip master seal zipper has been replaced with a new flexible YKK zipper to increase comfort.
These new add-ons complement the Nova Scotia’s long list of construction and convenience features. Suit seams are glued and blind-stitched, neck seal folds under, single extra-long wrist seals and zippered double ankle seals all work together to keep water seepage to a minimum. Everflex panels strategically placed in high-stretch areas maximise range of motion. The Diamond Span inner lining is water draining and insulates almost the entire suit, plus it makes easy work of donning and doffing. An improved protective spine pad provides extra protection where the tank meets the diver’s back, there are improved I-Safe straps on both arms for securing wrist instruments and a handy 3D cargo pocket for carrying accessories.
The Nova Scotia semi-dry dive suit benefits from another Scubapro exclusive: it is built with ultra-stretch one hundred percent X-Foam neoprene. Not only does X-Foam neoprene shed water so it can dry quickly and keep divers warmer, it is also the only neoprene formulation that complies with the very strict P.A.H. (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) test requirements.
Offering a snug-fitting, flexibility, good thermal properties and minimal water intrusion at a fraction of the cost of a drysuit, the Nova Scotia is the perfect solution for staying very warm and relatively dry while diving in cold or temperate water environments. Inclusive of a 6.5mm hood.
The Nova Scotia will be available at authorised Scubapro dealers from the end of November/beginning of December 2014.
